Easter Armas: Secretary, Founder

Born and raised in San Francisco, Easter witnessed firsthand how AIDS, then called the “gay cancer” devastated a community. Too many of her friends and acquaintances died in the early days of the pandemic. Easter began her philanthropic journey in 1985 when she volunteered for AIDS Vancouver by answering the helpline, raising money for the Emergency Fund and even painting their office because she didn’t like the colour of the walls. Easter cried all the way home after witnessing a once successful acquaintance, then living with full blown AIDS, eating out of a garbage bin. She knew to make a tangible and substantial difference it had to start with her and in her own neighbourhood. Thus, in 1989 A Loving Spoonful was born. Easter stepped down as Executive Director in 1996 and returned to A Loving Spoonful as a Director of the Board in 2008.
